From June 28 to July 11, 2025, Michael Halvorson will be sharing hidden gems from This Little World with community members at Holden Village, a retreat center in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Halvorson will be discussing social innovation methods and strategies that promote stability and growth in social impact organizations of all types.

During Summer 2025, over 50 instructors, musicians, and artists will be sharing content with up to 400 weekly visitors who arrive for stays typically lasting one to two weeks. The remote wilderness community is located near the Pacific Crest Trail, so some visitors are only in the Village for a day or two. The community is sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and operates as an ecumenical retreat center surrounded by forests and mountains.

The learning format for Halvorson’s teaching sessions will be lectures and hands-on workshops, allowing community members to apply social innovation methods to contexts that are immediately relevant to them. (Many visitors are interested in environmental issues, sustainability, spirituality, education, and outdoor ministries.) Halvorson will also read from This Little World in a special session hosted by the Village Bookstore.
